Our Story
In 2020, the good Lord performed a miracle in my life that I still don’t fully understand today. I had wanted to live in Scott since the mid-2000s but had never found the opportunity. While my wife was on the phone with our real estate agent (Kim is the reason we found Haven), a pecan orchard in Scott came up in conversation. Kim, knowing I had always wanted to live out here, reluctantly agreed to take a look with me. I was bouncing in my seat — she was just being a good wife and humoring me.
When we arrived, the moment was instantaneous. This was the very spot we had driven by early in our marriage, dreaming about what it would be like to live somewhere like that. Yes, I took my newlywed wife driving around Scott, looking at property. Being from Sacramento/San Francisco, Scott, AR was ever-so-slightly smaller than what she was used to, and she wasn’t quite up for that adventure yet.
The miracles that unfolded between finding the property and actually getting it were numerous — a thrilling story all on their own. I had no framework at the time to understand why God would bless us with so much land, but nevertheless, He did.
I remember within a few weeks, Dad and I were out there trying to bush hog the whole thing. It took us 36 hours over a three-day weekend to get it cut — just once. This wasn’t going to work long term. I approached Dad about starting a farm together. He’s always loved cattle and horses, and I needed something to eat my grass. That’s where Haven Farms was born.
But the story doesn’t end there. My uncle Ben owns his own farm in the Texas Panhandle called the Rusty Spur. We’re teaming up to bring what’s known as American Wagyu to the world — mostly our family, but “the world” sounds way cooler. Haven Farms (Scott, AR), Haven Farms West (Mobeetie, TX), and the Rusty Spur are all working together to raise the fluffiest cows with the best personalities and the most delicious beef we possibly can. Oh, and pecan pie.
Go give the farm a like! We’re USDA certified now. We’re not selling publicly just yet, but we do have YETIs — and if you’re really nice, I might be able to get you some pecans.
